Console shooters = teh suk. FPS's were meant to be played with a mouse... period. Although the Revolution controller intrigues me with posibilities.

While I don't agree that they suck, I much prefer PC FPSes to console ones. A lot of my freinds constantly rave about Halo 2 multiplayer, and while I agree that it is somewhat fun, it doesn't stack up against any PC FPS I've ever played.

In fact, there aren't that many catagories of games that I can think of that are really superior on the console. 2d or 3d fighters (IE Mortal Kombat) or games like Smash Bros are better suited to console, but almost every other game that I can think of could do ok on a PC.

The nice thing about Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 2 on the PC is that servers can support up to 48 and 64 players at a time. The consoles will only support 16 or 32 players. On the larger maps it's really satisfying to have so many people.

UT2004 > BF2. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

I just attended a 16+ man LAN party last month...

(YES, I was tempted to paint a letter "Y" on the street sign above)

The games played were Quake4 and FEAR. Quake4 had excellent game play, but the built-in game browser is utterly useless. FEAR was really good as a multiplayer game, but the lack of multi-player maps kinda made things get old fast. We also did BF2 at the previous LAN party before this (had 24+ players there)... got pretty chaotic at times.

Of all the recent FPS games I've tried, UT2004-ONS is still my favorite. Uber vehicles like the Cicada and Leviathan really added a new dimension to game play beyond just point-click-kill.

NOLF, NOLF 2, and Contract Jack. They're all by the makers of FEAR and are classics.

Me and my friends have been doing LAN parties since Doom2.

BF2 = Battlefield 2. It's an FPS shooter based on the modern combat theatre. All weapons and vehicles are modeled after existing stuff, making it very popular among military + gun enthusiasts.

But it's still not as cool as UT2004. Onslaught ftw.

UT2004> Your soul.

I'm more of a console FPS gamer myself, though, and you can't go wrong with the Halo series, Brothers in Arms, FarCry Instincts... All good stuff.
